Second year Head Coach Michael Grant along with Assistant Coach Frank Cipolla prepare to lead the 09 Tomahawk baseball squad into what projects to be a successful season. Coach Grant looks to improve on last years 14-9 overall record and CCC North 2nd place finish.
Returning players set to lead the Tomahawks are Seniors David Johnston, Spencer Haymond, Josh Barrett, Bryan Mester, Ben Sellew, Kevin O’Connell, Pat Morton & Joe Spero. Juniors Mike Habzda, Emmett Ravis along with Sophomore Alex Hanelt also return. New-comers adding depth are Seniors Nick Barter, Anthony Longo, Nick Neild, Juniors Jimmy Hill, Jason Sutkowski, Zach Hummel and Sophomore Kyle Richards.
Strength in pitching, defense and overall team speed combined with improved hitting indicate the Tomahawks will once again contend for the CCC North Division title and look to improve on last year’s quarterfinal appearance in the CIAC “LL” State Tournament.
The Tomahawks begin regular season play on Wednesday, April 8 versus new CCC member Farmington at the GHS Varsity Field.
