The Tomahawks used late inning heroics to grab their 3rd win of the season, defeating Fermi High School, by a 3-2 score. Entering the bottom of the 7th inning knotted at 2’s, Jason Sutkowski lined a one-out single to left field & advanced to 2nd base when the ball was misplayed in the outfield. Alex Hanelt followed with a hard single to right field with Sutkowski sliding across home plate to score the game-winner on a very close play.

Gbury grabbed a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st. Spencer Haymond hit a one out single and stole 2nd base. David Johnston followed with a line drive single into center field, driving in Haymond.

After Fermi tied the score at 1’s with a run in the top of the 4th, the Tomahawks regained the lead with a run of their own in the bottom of the 5th inning. A lead off single by Sutkowski was followed by an Hanelt sacrifice bunt moving Sutkowski to 2nd. A fielder’s choice advanced the runner to 3rd base. Josh Barrett followed with a clutch 2 out single driving in Sutkowski.

Fermi plated their 2nd run of the game in the top of the 6th inning setting up the 7th inning heroics.

Johnston & Joe Spero provided solid pitching holding the Fermi hitters to 4 hits for the contest. Johnston pitched into the 6th inning, allowing 4 hits, 4 walks while striking out 2. Spero relieved with one out in the 6th with the score tied at 2 with 2 runners on base. A strikeout and comebacker ended the threat. Spero tossed a perfect 7th inning striking out 2 to earn the win.
