T'Hawks Fall To East Catholic.....

The Tomahawks visited East Catholic this afternoon for a non-division contest. When all was said & done, the T'Hawks were saddled with their 2nd loss of the season, 8-3.

The Tomahawks scored a run in the top of the 1st inning to grab a quick, albeit short-lived lead. David Johnston rapped a solid 2-out single into left field. Kevin O'Connell followed with a single into right-center field, sending Johnston to 3rd. O'Connell stole 2nd base; when the throw bounded into center-field, Johnston was able to score.

The Eagles quickly responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st, all without the aid of a hit. Two errors, 2 hit batsman, 2 walks & a sacrifice fly were pieced together to do the damage. Two errors, a walk & a single led to another run in the bottom of the 2nd to make the score East Catholic 4, Tomahawks 1 at the end of 2 innings.

The T'Hawks were able to cut the lead to 1 run by scoring 2 runs in the top of the 5th, making the score 4-3, East Catholic. Mike Habzda led off with a solid single; Alex Hanelt was hit with a pitch. Anthony Longo executed a perfect sacrifice bunt to move both runners to 2nd & 3rd with one out. Josh Barrett grounded to 2nd to drive in Habzda & Spencer Haymond singled to left to score Hanelt.

East Catholic responded with a single run in the bottom of the 5th and 3 in the bottom of the 6th, making the score 8-3, the final score of the game.

Emmett Ravis climbed to the top of the "bump" as the T'Hawks starting pitcher. Ravis pitched 4 1/3 innings, surrendering 5 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits, striking out 4, walking 4 & hitting 2. Joe Spero relieved with 1 out in the bottom of the 5th. Spero surrendered 3 runs (0 earned) on 3 hits, 3 strikeouts & 4 walks.

Johnston, O'Connell, Haymond, Habzda, Barrett & Kyle Richards had the Tomahawks' hits for the day.

The Tomahawks record now stands at 7-2 overall, 2-1 in CCC North division play. The T'Hawks return to action of Monday @ 3:45pm @ Riverfront Park, hosting Southington High School in a CCC North game.
